How to charge by group size: up to N anglers included, extra anglers on top
Updated 26 October 2026
Many captains price a private trip for a small group and charge a little more for each extra angler: for example 500 for up to 3 anglers and 75 for a 4th. Reelzy supports this directly, so a party of four pays the right price without any back and forth. This guide shows how to set it up and what guests see.
1. Where to set it
- Open Listings in the account menu at the top right
- Open your listing and go to the Pricing step (trips and prices)
- Each trip row has a Guests column with three fields
The Guests column is shown for private trips (the whole boat). Shared trips are priced per seat, so they do not have it.
2. The three fields
- price covers up to: the number of anglers included in the trip price. Leave it at “any group” when the price is the same whatever the group size.
- then per extra guest: what each angler above that number pays. It only becomes active once you set the included number.
- max on this trip: the most guests this trip takes. Leave it at “boat capacity” when the trip takes as many guests as the boat.
Example: a 4-hour inshore trip at 500 with “price covers up to 3”, “then per extra guest 75” and “max on this trip 4”. A group of 1, 2 or 3 pays 500. A group of 4 pays 575. A group of 5 cannot pick this trip.
The fields are optional and independent. You can set only a maximum (a trip for 2 on a boat for 6), or only the included number with an extra fee and no maximum (then the boat’s capacity is the limit).
3. What guests see
- In the trip list, each trip shows “up to 3 guests” and “+75 per extra guest” under its price.
- Guests choose how many people are coming. The counter stops at the trip’s maximum.
- The price breakdown shows the trip price and a separate “1 extra guest × 75” line, then the booking fee as usual.
- The booking, the receipt and your reservation page keep the group size and the extra-guest line, so you always know who paid what.
4. Special offers and special prices
A special price set on a date in your calendar replaces the trip price and the extra-angler fee still applies on top. A special offer sent from a chat is for a group size you choose: the listed price it is compared with is the price for that group, so you can offer a party of four anything up to 575 in the example above.
5. Fees and payouts
The extra-angler fee is part of the trip price. Reelzy’s booking fee, deposits, your payout and any refund are all worked out from the full trip price for that group, exactly as for any other trip.
