Squid Fishing Charters

Browse guided squid fishing trips and charters worldwide on Reelzy. Squid are caught on lures shaped like small prawns, with a crown of fine pins where a hook would be. Our Gibraltar, Malta and Sussex boats list them as a side catch rather than the main event.

Updated

A squid hunts by sight, darting in on small fish and shrimps and grabbing them with two long tentacles, so the lure is worked slowly, lifted and let fall near reefs, weed and rock. The take is often just a sudden weight on the line. Bring one aboard and it squirts ink at whoever is holding it, so keep it pointed over the side. Squid also rise to lights at night, which is why so much squid fishing happens after dark. Sliced into rings and fried that evening, they are as good as anything you will catch.

In Gibraltar, Blue Horizon is a small game boat for up to 4, leaving at 06:00 on 3 or 6 hour trips with gear, fuel, snacks and soft drinks included. The skipper puts squid with octopus and cuttlefish as the harder catches, next to the little tunny and mackerel that keep the rods busy, so a squid there is a prize. Our Gibraltar fishing by season guide shows what else is around.

In Malta, Aquaholic lists squid and octopus with its reef and wreck fish from St. Paul's Bay. Captain Paul is a commercial fisherman, and if squid are on your wish list he will tell you plainly whether his private trips of four to eight hours from 09:00 give you a real chance. In England, Kestrel Warrior runs short shared trips from East Sussex at 08:30, and in November 2025 its crew said they were hoping to find squid on later sessions. We have no squid report from the boat yet.

Questions and answers

Short answers to what people ask before they book. Anything else, ask the captain in chat.

Do any of these boats run night trips for squid?

Not as a listed trip. Blue Horizon leaves Gibraltar at 06:00, Kestrel Warrior leaves East Sussex at 08:30 and Aquaholic leaves St. Paul's Bay at 09:00. Squid feed best in low light, so ask the skipper whether an earlier or later session can be arranged.

Which boat gives the best chance of catching a squid?

Blue Horizon in Gibraltar and Aquaholic in Malta both name squid in their listings and fish the reefs and rocky ground where squid hunt. Kestrel Warrior's crew have only said they hope to find them, so ask any of the three what has been showing.
