Great Barracuda Fishing Charters

A barracuda hangs almost still near cover, then closes the gap in one burst, and the lure is gone. In warm seas it lives around reefs, wrecks and drop-offs and roams out over deeper water, taking trolled lures and baits meant for other fish. The first run is fast and it sometimes jumps. Think before you eat one: big tropical reef barracuda are a known source of ciguatera, a poisoning from toxins the fish build up from their prey, so ask the crew before a large one goes in the ice box.

None of the eight boats on this page names barracuda as a target, which is the right way to see them: a bonus on a day spent fishing for something else. Off Palm Beach County, Sport Fishing South Florida fishes the reefs and wrecks as well as the Gulf Stream, on kite, live bait, jigging and trolling trips of 3 to 8 hours. In Las Palmas, Bottom fishing 6 hours is a morning reef trip for amberjack and snapper, and Fishingmalta in Ta' Xbiex trolls and bottom fishes the reefs and ledges on shared trips at 7 am and noon. Around the Canaries and in the Mediterranean the barracuda on deck is more often one of the smaller local species than a true great barracuda; the skipper will tell you which.
