Conger Eel charters by country
Congers hunt mostly at night, sliding out of their holes for fish, squid and crabs. A big one does not run. It pulls straight down, back towards its hole, and you have a few seconds to stop it before the trace is wrapped round the wreck. Hence the heavy gear: a strong rod, a trace that sharp teeth cannot bite through, and a whole fish or mackerel flapper for bait. Many anglers let theirs go once the photo is taken.
Conger on the English south coast
Our one conger report came off Eastbourne in November 2025, when Kestrel Warrior had a few pushing 10 kg on a calm, foggy morning. Its East Sussex trips are two hour shared sessions from 08:30 for up to 10. Fishing with Andy in Plymouth works wrecks, banks and rough ground on full days, roughly 07:15 to 17:00, for up to 8, the pick for a long day over the wrecks. On the Costa del Sol the same fish is the congrio. Blue Tide Marbella mixes bottom fishing, trolling and drifting on 3 to 8 hour trips from 08:00 for up to 9, with rods, bait, cold drinks and permits included; its bottom fishing is what puts a conger within reach. La Starfisher is a light tackle boat with a captain of more than 20 years' experience, on 3 to 9 hour trips from 08:00 for up to 8. Neither boat names conger as a target, and light tackle is a poor match for a big one, so treat a conger as a maybe and ask before you book.

It is the one to ask about. The four hour trip fishes inshore marks with bait on the bottom, conger are on the boat's list, and they feed more as the light goes. Bait and tackle are supplied.
Do the Marbella charters catch conger eels?
Both Marbella boats list conger, congrio in Spanish, but neither describes it as a main target. Blue Tide Marbella's bottom fishing gives the better chance; La Starfisher fishes light tackle. Ask the skipper what is realistic.
